Rethinking Waste: Have some cocoa with your coal
On Tuesday, Lindt Chocolate
company tried out an experiment with their “waste,” a by-product of the chocolate manufacturing process – cocoa bean shells. Lindt USA and New Hampshire’s Public Services Company (energy company) are trying out a new mix (1 part cocoa husks/ 33 parts coal) for their coal plant to see if by using this “waste” product helps reduce emissions from the coal plant and/or provides a new fuel source for the plant.
Couple of other uses for this “waste” that have been used
- mulch – for gardening and landscaping. Have your daisy’s smell like cocoa – kinda fun FAQ
- bio-fuel – Chocolate fueled excursion from England to Timbuktu
